 SERMONS

As I said, today is Mother’s Day and not just any Mother’s Day but the 100th anniversary of America’s celebration of Mother’s Day. And on this day I want to honor you women, you mothers who bear the burden of the hardest job in the world—raising godly children, children with biblical values, standards, and goal; children with moral courage and virtue. I want you to be held in the high esteem that God’s word demands of your children. We’ve gotten things turned around. Sadly, I hear too many children making demands of and arguing with their mothers. I grieve for you mothers, especially single mothers, when I think about the unbelievable pressures on you to be and do it all—to be nothing less than “Super Mom.” I don’t know how you hold up to it. It seems that children today, and not only children but culture as well, not only expect to participate in everything that comes along, but expect you to stand ready for their beckon call as personal chauffeur, caterer, and cheer leader. And if you have two or three children you meet yourself coming and going. Let me tell you something else you already know. If you give in to all their demands, they and life will pile more on you than you can hold up.

So, rather than placing a heavier burden on you this morning, I want to speak to your children, especially your teens. Listen up! This is important! I want to challenge you to look past yourselves, if only for a moment, and seriously consider how you can respect and honor your mother, how you can make her job easier and how you can bring joy into her life. And the place to begin is at the beginning, Exodus 20:12
